PAWS 4 THOUGHT Dog Behaviour Consultation Therapy & Training

Dog Behaviour Consultation, Therapy & Training

image51

Our aim is to advise and help dog owners on methods of interacting with their pet, by using tried and tested psychological principles of behavior therapy to modify bad behaviour, thereby alleviating the problems. We use only pain free, practical methods that rely on reward, distraction and response substitution to deal with the causes of unacceptable, or in some cases, abnormal behavior.

We are often called in to help dogs where other Dog Trainers and Canine Behaviorists feel that they are unable to help or do not have the expertise.

Prior to any training course we will always come to see you and your dog in his / her own environment to ascertain with yourselves what the issues are.

All our training is bespoke to your dog and your dog alone, as every dog is an individual and what may help one dog may not necessarily help another, hence why we take our time in assessing your dog before we decide on a plan of action.

Our aim is to work with dog owners to help them understand and train their dogs from puppyhood through to adulthood.

Individual “start right” puppy training & awareness

image53

Our aim is to work with potential puppy owners to help them understand the type of commitment that they are venturing into.

Many new puppy owners often make the mistake of endlessly worrying about finding the right accessories, puppy treats, or beds etc. In some case new dog owners  spend little or no time thinking about how or what they will teach their new puppy.

We whole heartily agree that a puppy needs good nutritious food, a safe, warm place to live, but what many owners forget is that they equally need a strong leader, that the puppy can take confidence and strength from.

Obedience & Socialisation Training

This type of training opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Your dog and other dogs and people Effective communication  and socilisation is necessary to  ensure that your dog is well adjusted and balanced within the company of others whether it be other dogs or humans. You will be able to instruct your dog about what you want them to do. You will be able to teach them anything from 'stay' 'sit' down off, leave come etc.   This training will be fun and rewarding for you and your dog. It will enrich your relationship and make living together more enjoyable.

RESIDENTIAL TRAINING

Within the controlled environment of our home, we are able to deal with various behavioural problems. Being able to assess and train your dog in the environments that are causing them problems, ensures an essential part of their training.

The training courses are suited to the needs of your dog, ranging from 1week residential to 6 weeks depending on your dog and you as the owner. Our courses cater for various issues from Basic Obedience Training, behaviour issues, and those who have dog or human aggression, or dogs that need socialisation etc. This course is intensive and specialised to give you the top level of control.

Once your dog arrives with us they will be assessed and allowed to settle into their new environment. All dogs that come for Residential Training will be living in our home, with us and our pack, ranging from German shepherds to Chihuahua’s

During their stay they will be treated and cared for as one of our own. Dependant on your dog’s requirements, we will dedicate a minimum of 4-6 hours training every day as well as supervised positive socialisation and constructive play. You will receive regular updates, photographs and videos to update you on your dog’s progress.

We can also arrange to collect your dog from your home if that is more convenient.

Please note there may be a short waiting list for residential training as we will only take 1 dog at a time to ensure that they get our full attention.

We have worked with all breeds and have a 100% customer satisfaction rate.

The most common issues we have been asked to help with are:

  • pulling on the lead
  • no or very limited recall
  • jumping up at people
  • little or no obedience
